| Ischia di Castro is a town
that has remains of monuments that are of Farnesian origin (La Rocca). Castro
belongs to these lands. Considered the capital of the homonymous Grand Duchy (or
Duchy?), it was destroyed in 1649 by the pontiffs army, as ordered by Innocenzo X
Pamphili .The ruins of that town rose from an ancient Etruscan settlement .Even if buried
by vegetation it provides a destination not to be ignored by visitors . Ideally it
represents the point of arrival of the entire tour. Well worth a visit is the interesting Etruscan
- medieval archaeological Museum, where from June to September guided tours to the
ruins of Castro and the rocky Romitori are arranged. Index |
